PARENTS
The subtle similarities between the parents of Jesus Christ and Superman make it impossible not to question if the writers of Superman got inspiration from the Bible. Whether it be that the mothers names start with M and fathers with J, how they recived their son, or how they had to raise their child, the similarities are incredible.
Jesus was raised by his biological mother named Mary and his step-father named Joseph. He was sent from God into Mary who become pregnant with the son of God. At the time Joseph had already been together with Mary and was upset about the pregnancy discovery. He planned to leave Mary until he received a dream from an angel insisting that he stay with Mary as she has conceived the son of God. Joseph a hard-working carpenter put all his love into raising Jesus as if he was his own. The love of Mary and Joseph to do all they could to raise Jesus the best they knew how from an unplanned situation is very similar to how Clark Kent's parents raised their son.
Superman was raised by his two adoptive parents: Martha and Jonathon who named him Clark. He was sent to earth by his Kryptonian biological parents to escape the destruction of his planet. Jonathon and Martha both did the best they could to give clark the American life. The fact that they raised him and loved them as their own even though they knew it would be difficult raising an alien child. His parents could have chosen to give him up for adoption and reveal his abilities but decided to keep and love him as their own. Martha previously had miscarriages so she was able to pretend that she kept this pregnancy a secret and that Clark was her biological child.
